a publik is pleased to announce “the gatherer”, a solo exhibition of new works by chantal küng.
„every once in a while, with a basket in hand, (…), there is that moment when the mind and spirit open to all the connections, to all the lives and our responsibility to use them well.“-robin wall kimmerer, braiding sweetgrass
the exhibition reflects on the idea of the basket and associated forms of gathering. drawings, ceramics and quilts are in a conversation with one another; even intimately connected with each other. the basket enters as a symbol of our responsibility and also of our capacity to nourish and be nourished in earthly connection. nourishing, mothering and growing happen in interdependency with all forms of the living. on a small scale, there are children filling their baskets with experience. on another, mothering is here as an attribute to any being living in attunement with its surroundings, gathering and caring, but also, mothering the earth. in between lays the exhaustion of the mother and the earth alike.
