during Die Lange Nacht der Zürcher Museen
This satirical feminist film by artist duo Influenza Famosa (Line Meyer and Laura Hinrichsmeyer) is about two female artists in search of great fame. Along their path to success and via detours on the way they experience frustrating jobs and encounter ambivalent characters. Confronted with absurd working conditions and moody superstars they question not only themselves but also the system within which they operate. The problems of reconciling career and integrity soon become apparent, and the importance of female friendship is reinforced as a counterweight to the complications and demands of a crude cultural scene.Adhering to clichés in a self-mocking and humorous manner, the film, whose actors are artists themselves, paints a picture of a tangled cultural landscape whose bizarre structures are built on oppressive power games, rumours and superficial judgements. Humour is an effective tool with which the duo confronts the real difficulties of the cultural industry, breaks down entrenched structures and exposes its weaknesses without being didactic.
