DIENSTGEBÄUDE is an artist-run space based in Zurich (Switzerland) and sees itself as an independent platform for artists and curators. Initiated in 2008 in a former service building of the swiss train company (SBB), Andreas Marti and his small team began to organize exhibitions in a 200 m2 large exhibition space with mostly Zurich based artists and curated guest projects in its program. In 2011 the space moved to another 230 m2 large space with three exhibition spaces (PS1 140m2, PS2 70m2, PS3 20m2) and two artist studios. The focus lies on young emerging and mid-career artists with a conceptual approach, mostly Switzerland based. In the course of time, more and more international positions had been added to the program. DIENSTGEBÄUDE does not have a pre-defined list of artists. The selected artists are invited to a single solo or group exhibition. All the exhibitions are temporary collaborations. In 2011 the space began to produce in collaboration with selected artists a series of art editions, edited by DIENSTGEBÄUDE. So far, more than 20 artists produced editions especially for DIENSTGEBÄUDE.
Until beginning of 2020 DIENSTGEBÄUDE realized more than 110 exhibitions, exchange projects, as well as projects abroad by invitation from curators or other spaces. DIENSTGEBÄUDE had been selected for participating in “promotion booths” at art fairs like Platform Projects (Athens, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014), IAF International Art Fair (Warsaw, 2017, 2016), Kunst Zürich (2017, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2012, 2011), Supermarket (Stockholm, 2014, 2012) and recently Rotterdam Contemporary (2017), POPPOSITIONS (Bruxelles, 2018, 2017), SWAB (Barcelona 2017) and The Others (Torino, 2018, 2017).
